WHAT TO SEE AND DO AT VGXPO
You'll spend hours touring the expo floor, viewing the History of VideoGames Museum, participating in workshops, competing in competitions, exploring our VideoGame Festival, or playing games in the VGXPO Arcade. We cover all of the bases! With so much to do while you're at the VGXPO be sure to plan your time at the show before you come.
THE EAST COAST GAMES SUMMIT
Panels, presentations and discussions on everything gaming. The East Coast Games Summit is designed to serve our professional colleagues in the game industry, as well as those interested in starting a career in games or just curious about the business of games. This conference offers a wide range of programming for all of our attendees. Make sure to visit the East Coast Games Summit home page for up-to-date detials.
VGXPO will host R-Botx Fest, a robot challenge that will feature both FIRST and VEX robotics competitions. This three-day event will include dozens of high school students competing in engineering events to find the very best robots.
The Anime Game Fest at VGXPO provides attendees with everything that a fan of anime would want in a dedicated anime convention, with the added value of being part of one of America's largest gaming conferences. The festival will feature screenings of anime and live action films, dedicated panels, karaoke, otaku-related gaming tournaments, an anime marketplace, CosPlay and much more. VGXPO's Anime Game Fest is co-presented by Zenkaikon, a leading East Coast anime association that runs events for fans of anime and Asian pop culture.
Retro Con is a classic games and collectors expo hosted at VGXPO and presented by J2Games. Retro Con will occupy two 5,000 sq foot ballrooms, including areas with vendors selling vintage games and collectables, a museum with exhibits showcasing game systems from the 70's, 80's and 90's, an art gallery featuring box and concept art, magazine covers and classic advertisements, and a special program track which will feature industry luminaries speaking about the history of gaming.
Each year VGXPO hosts 'Breaking In' a 2-day, one-track event, for folks that would like to make videogames for a living.
At this unique event, you'll be provided with everything you need to know to find education and job opportunities in the games industry.
EXPO HALL - GAMING COMPANIES
In the VGXPO Expo Hall you'll find many game companies displaying the latest and greatest games. In past years groups like DELL Computer, EA's Rock Band, NVIDIA, ATARI, NUBY, NBC-Universal, Ziff Davis, Tips and Tricks, Red Octane, Video Games Live, EB Games, Game Crazy, Patriot Memory, the PMS Girls, Panasonic, Phillips, Virtual Rush, and many, many others have been part of VGXPO.
COSPLAY COSTUME COMPETITION
Animation conventions are not the only place you see COSPlayers! For the fourth year in a row, VGXPO will play host to a huge COSPlay competition. Over 50 people participated in last year's competition - don't be left out, start working on this year's costume now!
VIDEOTOPIA 2009 - VGXPO ARCADES
The Videotopia exhibit is a traveling arcade museum that includes some of the best arcade video games ever produced, and all are set on free play. Many 'first generation' gamers grew up playing games like Ms. Pac Man and Street Fighter in arcades. With Videotopia we're giving those 'first gen' gamers a chance to revel in the glory days of arcade gaming, and maybe even share some of their childhood experiences with their own kids.
GREAT AMERICAN VIDEO GAME TOURNAMENT
Videogame Competitions are a hallmark of VGXPO. Last year we held over 50 cash-prize competitions on console, PC and retro platforms. Expect more of the same in 2009!
VGXPO provides visitors with the opportunity to meet some of the videogame industries living legends. In past year's we've hosted gaming greats like Lorne Lanning, Tommy Tallarico, Bill Kunkel and Ralph Baer. We even had controversial folks like the infamous Jack Thompson attend VGXPO.
This year we'll be expanding our celebrity guest list to include even more legendary game makers. Keep an eye on VGXPO.com for updates on the celebrities that will attend VGXPO in 2009.
BATTLE OF THE VIDEOGAME BANDS
Games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band have proved to be HUGE hits with gamers and at VGXPO we take music and gaming very seriously. The 2009 Battle of the VideoGame Bands is sure to be a big event at VGXPO.
SNEAK PEAKS: GAME, ANIME, TV AND FILM SCREENINGS
VGXPO will play host to a showcase of game, anime, web, TV, and film screenings. The screenings will include new footage of videogame and sci-fi TV programming, and sneak previews of up coming movies. In addition to new content, VGXPO will host special screenings and Q&A sessions on videogame related films. More details regarding the program schedule are forthcoming.
